James Jabara becomes the first jet fighter ace

With two victories on this day, U.S. Air Force Captain James Jabara becomes the first fighter ace to score his five victories in a jet (an F-86 Sabre) against jets (Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15s). Prior to the dogfight Jabara's right fuel tank failed to separate from his wing, and protocol required he return to base. However, his desire to become a jet ace,saw him continue to the air battle, where he was able to still handle his aircraft well enough to be credited with shooting down the two MiGs with .50 caliber machine gun fire.
