    AIRCRAFT AN-74
    (Description of the Base Model)
    An-74 is a light transport multipurpose aircraft, designed by "ANTONOV" ASTC for Arctic and Antarctic regions. The aircraft is purposed for carrying cargo, equipment and passengers at short and medium-haul routes in any climatic conditions within temperature range from - 60 to +45° C and at any latitudes, North Pole and mountainous areas included.
    The aircraft can be operated at both uncontrolled and controlled routes in any season at any time from concrete, pebble, ice and snow surfaced airfields at both domestic and international airlines.
    An-74 has the capacity of carrying up to 7,5 tons of cargo (10 passengers included) or 49 passengers at the altitude of 10100m with cruising speed of 650-700 km/hour. Besides, the aircraft can be used for performing the following special missions:
    - to guide ships along their routes;
    - to establish and service drifting stations;
    - to carry out scientific research in high latitudes of Arctic and Antarctic regions;
    - to carry out visual ice patrol;
    - to carry out fish shoal reconnaissance.
    In the process of operation An-74 aircraft can be easily converted into ambulance, fire-fighting/troop carrier and other configurations.
    An-74 aircraft meets the requirements of air worthiness standards for transport/passenger category of civil aircraft.
    Aircraft design features new materials and new manufacturing processes are employed for manufacturing aircraft, which results in very favorable payload to aircraft weight ratio.
    Aircraft features the configuration of high wing monoplane with two turbofan engines D-36, series 2A with thrust of 6500 kgf (63.7kN), mounted over the wing. The aircraft tail assembly is of T-shaped design.
    Engine mounting with considerable stagger above upper wing surface practically eliminated a chance of foreign objects injection from runway during take-off and landing. The aforementioned feature also increases lift of the wing due to blowing over upper wing surface and inboard flaps by engine jets.
    Noise level heard on the terrain is also reduced due to the fact, that engine jets are screened by the wing.
    Aircraft crew consists of 4 persons: captain, co-pilot, navigator and flight engineer.
    Aircraft cargo compartment has dimensions, optimized in accordance with main types of cargo, carried by the aircraft. It provides an opportunity to carry cargo in containers, cargo packed on rigid pallets, non-standard cargo (bales, barrels, etc.), non self-propelled and self-propelled wheeled material (automobiles of types "Jeep C 47", etc.).
    Cargo door opening is covered with a ramp which can be lowered down on the ground and used as entrance stairs or slid forward under the fuselage, which makes it convenient to load the aircraft right from the truck.
    Loading and unloading cargo packed on the pallet, cargo in containers and other kinds of cargo is done with aircraft cargo handling device with lifting capacity of 2500 kgf (24,5 kN). Loading and unloading self propelled material is done by its own motion. Wheeled non self propelled material is loaded and unloaded with a towing tractor and aircraft cable cargo handing device.
    High thrust-to-weight ratio, availability of auxiliary power unit for self-contained engine starting and of aircraft cargo handling device, high engine location and landing gear design with low-pressure tires make it possible to operate the aircraft from uncontrolled airfields with unpaved, pebble, ice and snow covered surfaces. Airfields may have shortened dimensions and the strength of airfield surface must be not less than 8 kgf/sm2 (800 kPa) or higher.
    Modern radio communications and flight and navigation equipment provides aircraft flights at controlled routes in all geographic zones, over land and sea. The flights can be performed in standard and adverse weather conditions, during day and night with high precision of automatic air navigation enroute. Landing under weather minimum corresponding to category I of ICAO (60x800 m).
    The aircraft is easy to operate and flight and maintenance personnel of average qualification can master it without any difficulty at all.
