The FAA has set up some specific rules and regulations regarding alcohol testing

Alcohol abuse has long been a major problem for employers. The FAA has set up some specific rules and regulations regarding alcohol testing in order to prevent alcohol abuse in the work place. Subpart F in 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 40 and 14 CFR Part 120 provides in detail all the FAA Drug Testing Program Requirements. The rules apply to safety-sensitive employees and since alcohol is a legal substance, the rules define specific prohibited alcohol-related conduct. The purpose is to establish programs designed to help prevent accidents and injuries resulting from the misuse of alcohol by employees who perform safety-sensitive functions in aviation.
