This is my first post. I am going into junior year and have really begun thinking about the air force academy. I am in the top 3% of my class with a 4.4 GPA, in the IB program, and in Boyscouts (I will be Eagle soon, I am working on my project right now). I am running for Senior Patrol Leader in my troop in a few weeks, with no doubts that I will be elected. The only area Im concerned about is sports, of which I only play tennis, and Im not seated very high (seventh or 8th). I havent taken the SAT or ACT yet, planning on doing that as soon as possible, but I did score a 28 on the PLAN and I am fairly confident that I can get over 700 on all SAT sections. First, can anyone give me advice on what more I could be doing to bolster my chances of admission?

Second, after browsing the posts, all of the vision questions are related to distance. My problem is color blindness. I am not completely color blind at all, it is not detrimental in the slightest and I can see all colors and distinguish them perfectly. Its just that when I go into the doctors office to do that test where you have to see the Fs in those dots of different colors, I cant see any of the 8 Fs except the first one! Would that take me out of the running for piloting a fighter or a helicopter, or even a heavier plane for that matter?

I'm a Freshman in high School And im thinking of being a fighter pilot for the United States Air Force. As I start high school i"m starting to see that its time for me to start finding out i need to do to become what i want. One of the thing i need to find out is what are the educational requirements i must met? What classes or courses must i take? what exams must i take?

Hi there, all my life i loved jet planes, and so i wanna become a fighter pilot. So my question is that can i become a pilot with not so good grades, like do you have to be real smart to become a fighter pilot, cause right now i'm a senior in high school, how about the math, do you need to be good at math? This is very important please respond to this message, and one more thing is that i wear glasses, will that effect me from being a pilot?

I am 26 years old , I live outside of the united states ........but here is the deal...I have a green card ( permanent one ) , I have finished 4-year college ( PE) in my country with really good grades and good GPA( around 4 ) , I have never broken any kind ow law , in perfect health , never had any kind of surgery except for tonsils in the age of 6 , I have 20/20 vision....

I will be around 27 and 3/4 when I move to usa on permanent basis , so....

1.) what is my next step after that in order to become fighter pilot ( it doesnt really mater in which branch , as long it is flying fighter planes )...and...

2.) what can I do in the meanwhile in my country in order to prepare myself better for that great , great achievment

Hi everyone,

I'm currently in the process of applying for the Warrant Officer Flight Training Program. I'm 18 and still in High School, so I have no obligation yet. My question is, if I fly Helicopters for the Army for my six years, probably get airborne and air assault qualified along the way, as well as my diploma, will the Air Force accept me into Flight Training so long as I'm under the maximum age limit? I've been hearing from some veterans that the Air Force doesn't take army or navy pilots, but they haven't served in a long time, and my father who was an AF pilot flew with a few guys who were former army aviators. I'm just wondering if anyone has any perspective on if the modern Air Force would take me.

F-119 Stealth Fighter

Hey, this is probably the wrong forum, but I couldn't figure out a forum that was more appropriate. I apologize if this is the wrong forum.

Anyways, I remember reading about and seeing pictures of a plane called the F-119 Stealth Fighter. I even built a model of one when I was a kid. I've been looking all over the internet for this plane, and haven't been able to find it anywhere. It looks very different from the F-117 Nighthawk. It's very flat, and more rounded. The edge of the wings curve downward and it has two lumps at the side of the fuselage. They are like canards, but much smoother. If anyone knows anything about this plane and where to find it online, please let me know. Thank you!

Finance Major wanting to fly

So I was talked out of ROTC when I was in high school because I had a good GPA and my parents wanted me to make a good (peaceful) living. Anyways, I graduated today and I still have the ambition to be a fighter pilot as I did when I was younger. I'm 22 now and graduated with a Finance major from FSU with a good GPA, is it too late for me? I love aviation and would love to serve my country.

Alright here's my situation. Ive been a F-16 crew chief in the ANG for about four years and have dreamed of being a fighter pilot since high school. I will have about 60 college credit hours after this semester. My original plan was to get a Bs in mechanical engineering, because I was behind on my math my graduating date wont be until May 2015. So what I am contemplating is possibly changing majors to aerospace security. The benefits would be a closer graduating date and a higher GPA. I would LOVE to be a pilot and as much as I want to be an engineer, pilot is #1. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I plan on obtaining a pilot slot through the ANG base that I have been enlisted.

Would I still qualify for flying an F-22?

So I've always wanted to be an F-22 pilot since I was a kid and I'm a Junior in high school right now but I'm not sure whether or not I meet the requirements. I'm about 5'8, I am nearsighted (which can be corrected by surgery) and I'm slightly flat-footed.

Would I still be eligible to fly? Also I might go into Air Force ROTC, is it recommended for me to take an aeronautic engineer major? Because I'm not good at advanced math like Calculus.

I'm trying to help my 17 year old nephew gather information/guidance on becoming a pilot in the military. I have read posts on this site et. al. that recommend ROTC with one of the branches when he goes to college. He is NOT interested in being a fighter/"Top Gun" kind of pilot but thinks he would be interested flying cargo, etc... Any suggestions? Thanks.

I am 16, 6'1" 145 lbs. After graduating high school I plan on attending Royal Military College in Canada and becoming a fighter pilot through the Regular Officer Training Program. My main concern is height, my mother is short and I am already taller than my father so I really do not planning on growing any taller. What is the height limit for fighter pilots? And a question for Air Force pilots; What should I be doing right now to prepare myself and give myself an advantage once I enter the Air Force.

Hey guys, i'm trying to find out as much information before contacting a recruiter. I want to become a pilot. My question is, do you pick your aircraft and type of pilot. For example did you pick to be a pilot of a Fighter jet and be a recon pilot, or a cargo plane pilot, or is it assigned to you? Does this change in time with your experience levels? Also do you pick where you are stationed?

I am currently in my last year at FSU and will be enrolling in OCS to become an aviation officer of the USN. By this time I will have my FAA private pilots license, instrument rating, and multiple engine rating. I am also in great shape (2 mile run under 12 min, 20+ pull ups, 100 push ups/ sit ups). Ultimately, my goal is to become a fighter pilot and I was wondering what else I could do to prepare myself for the intense competition I will be facing along the way (maybe specific college classes, I'm an economics major) and what is the minimum amount of years I would have to serve starting with OCS?

Hello,

I am currently a sophomore in college studying aeronautical engineering. I have a 2.7 GPA (had a rough semester, ill get it up) and am most likely going to begin AF ROTC this coming semester.

I really want to fly, but unfortunately my vision is not perfect. I have 20/20 vision in my right eye but my left eye is about 20/40. I would love to be a fighter pilot, but I understand how hard it is to actually become one. I am also very interested in becoming a CSAR helo pilot, which seems to me like a more realistic goal. My question is this: do they look at every potential pilot candidate as the same or could I specify that I would like to fly helos? I know how selective the process is, I just would like an honest answer what my chances are.
